Addo Elephant National Park, Eastern Cape · South Africa · colonial-era camp, eight tented suites
Gorah Elephant Camp
Gorah is a colonial-era camp inside Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape, with eight tented suites. We use it for one reason above all: the elephant. Addo holds more than 600 of them, and on most afternoons the family herds walk down to the waterhole in front of Gorah's veranda while you sit with a drink and watch. You do not have to go anywhere to see them.
The drives are with your own vehicle and guide. Addo is malaria-free, which makes Gorah an easy stop for families whose youngest or oldest members cannot take prophylaxis, and it sits well between the Cape coast and the bush further north.
On The Cape Wilderness Gorah comes after Gondwana and before the Sabi Sand. Your Pilatus PC-12 flies east to Gqeberha and a short private drive brings you into the park. Two nights later the same aircraft takes you north to the Lowveld. On South Africa Complete the family flies in from Mossel Bay after Gondwana and stays two nights before the turboprop north to the Sabi Sand.
Gorah suits people who like a camp with some history to it, and anyone who wants elephant at close range without a long day in the vehicle.
