Durban Country Club

Durban Country Club is ranked number eight in South Africa by Golf Digest South Africa (2025). It runs among the dunes behind the beach, and and it has been carefully upgraded by Golf Data without losing what made it a favourite. This is old-school seaside golf. The fairways roll with the dunes, and the wind off the Indian Ocean is part of every club decision. Your caddie will tell you how much it is worth on each tee, and you should listen.

You fly down from Lanseria in your own jet, about an hour to King Shaka International, and you are at The Oyster Box in Umhlanga in time for lunch. That evening it is grilled Mozambique prawns on the Ocean Terrace, with the lighthouse beam sweeping the water. The next morning you play Durban Country Club. Non-golfers have the spa and the Umhlanga promenade, with lunch overlooking the sea.

From here the journey moves up the north coast for Zimbali and Prince's Grant, then by aircraft to Phinda. Our KZN journey runs in April to June and September to November, when the coast is warm without the heavy summer humidity.
