Singita Sabora Tented Camp

Sabora gives you the Serengeti Migration on private land. The camp has eight tents standing in open grassland in Singita's 350,000-acre Grumeti concession on the western corridor of the Serengeti, and only Singita's guests drive it.

That changes how the Migration feels. When the herds move across the concession, you watch them with your own guide and vehicle and no queue of other vehicles behind you. On both our journeys a helicopter lifts you over the Serengeti plains to find the herds from the air, then sets you down to follow them on the ground.

One morning you visit the Singita Grumeti anti-poaching operations centre and meet the team who protect this land. It is one of the visits guests talk about afterwards, because it shows you what keeps a place like this intact. On your last evening a long table is set in the open grass, and dinner starts as the light goes.

Sabora suits people who want the Serengeti with space around them, and it pairs naturally with the Mara across the border, which is how we use it on East Africa by Air.

On that journey a Cessna Caravan flies you south from the Mara into Tanzania, with formalities cleared en route, to the Grumeti strip. On Tanzania Complete a Pilatus PC-12 brings you north from Ruaha. You leave by Caravan for the Lake Manyara strip, or by helicopter straight to the Ngorongoro Crater rim.

• The herds usually move through the western corridor around June and July; the concession has resident game all year.
