Buhala Lodge

Buhala Lodge is where our golf journeys sleep the night before Leopard Creek. It sits on the southern bank of the Crocodile River at Malelane, with the Kruger National Park on the far bank, so the view from the veranda is elephant, hippo and crocodile in the river and the park's bush beyond it. The club is ten minutes away by road.

The lodge is family-run and small: eighteen suites, each looking either over the river to the Kruger or into the garden, with a pool on the lawn above the water and a bush spa at the river's edge. Dinner is on the veranda or under the trees. Nothing about it is showy, which is the point after a day on the course.

On The Garden Route & Sabi Sand, The Southern Arc, The Highveld Golf Circuit and The Grand Traverse the Phenom 300 lands at Malelane, about ninety minutes from George or Sun City, and you are at the lodge within twenty minutes. The next morning you play Leopard Creek; the morning after, a Cessna Caravan takes you north to the Sabi Sand. Non-golfers can take a private morning drive into the Kruger through the Malelane Gate and meet the golfers at the clubhouse for lunch.

• Two nights on each journey that plays Leopard Creek.
• Guided day drives into the Kruger, SANParks night drives and bush walks from the Malelane Gate, and the bush spa, are arranged by your Journey Architect before you travel.
• The lodge is on the Kruger boundary, which is a malaria area: your doctor will advise on prophylaxis for the Lowveld nights.
